The sheer size of this contemporary estate, topping off at approximately 35,000 square feet sprawled across more than six acres, was the biggest obstacle faced by Atlantic Control Technologies. The Maryland-based integration team handled the mammoth task deftly, earning the perennial CE Pro Home of the Year Awards entrant a well-deserved top honor in this Home of the Year Awards category.
The contemporary estate boasts a tennis and squash court, an indoor/outdoor pool pavilion, golf simulator, home theater, a grand drive — accessible only by automated gate — and multiple terraces with isolated planting beds. To comprehensively traverse the grounds and the home’s interior, the company designed a comprehensive conduit plan and led high level coordination meetings with the builder.
“The home includes custom high-end cabinetry, bespoke wall finishes, and unique architectural features, so it was imperative within this dynamic project environment to provide meticulous drawings for each AV component to achieve the interior design team’s desired aesthetic,” says Atlantic Control Technologies Owner Steve Riley.
To maintain complete system scalability, the team designed a hybrid system, with each display fitted with a local Apple TV and AVPro MXnet to distribute content from five cable boxes. Local Sonos amps were used for TV audio and music.
“It was challenging to keep within the prescribed 32 Sonos zones, but with strategic room groupings we provided holistic coverage,” Riley says.

The pool area was about 3,400 square feet with six floor-to-ceiling automated glass doors, but the door subcontractor wasn’t familiar with automation, so Atlantic Control Technologies stepped into coordinate with the manufacturer to integrate it into the Lutron system.
Speaking of Lutron, there were 25+ lighting design revisions, which made sticking to internal processes key, Riley says.
In addition to a commercial movie cinema-like experience in the home theater, the company installed 16 TVs into the home’s unique architecture and floor-to-ceiling marble fireplace facades. The theater itself features a high-power Barco 4K laser projector beaming onto a 160-inch Screen Innovation screen.
The field team collaborated closely with trade partners to ensure the success of the landscape lighting, lighting control, home theater, security systems, automated doors, and challenging site conditions.
“Given the size and complexity of the project our team had to remain highly engaged in all aspects of planning and execution,” Riley says.
