Dirac Spaces Aims to Turn Car Cabins into Concert Halls

The new Dirac Spaces software allows for the shaping of a car’s audio profile to match specific scenes, such as an ‘intimate recording studio’ or ‘expansive performance hall.’

Long known for its audio processing technologies within residential environments, Dirac has announced the U.S. debut of its new Dirac Spaces software, taking a new approach to translating those home audio experiences into the automotive space.

The new capability will officially launch in U.S. markets at the AES Automotive Audio 2026 International Conference, taking place July 29-31 at Huntington Place in Detroit, Michigan.

What is Dirac Spaces?

First introduced in April 2026 at Auto China in Beijing, Dirac Spaces works to add greater space, depth and naturalness to a car’s sound systems, making car rides feel “more immersive, more personal, and more closely connected to the vehicle brand,” according to Dirac.

The solution works by measuring both the vehicle cabin and a target acoustic environment and uses Dirac’s proprietary MIMO sound field control technology to reproduce the reflections, decay, directionality, and spatial character of that environment inside the car. This, according to Dirac, results in what it considers to be a more realistic and coherent sound field, allowing the cabin to take on the acoustic character of spaces such as an “intimate studio, warm stage or expansive performance hall.”

On release, Dirac Spaces will be available in two configurations: Signature Spaces (which will enable automakers to partner with iconic venues to create branded acoustic environments tailored to their vehicles) and Designed Space that focus on more generalized acoustic profiles, like an opera hall.

Why Integrators Should Take Note

More consumers experience luxury audio through their cars nowadays than through dedicated home systems, but that’s not for a lack of interest. In most cases, letting consumers get a taste of the luxury experience in their cars can often serve as a powerful use case when recommending specific audio brands for the home.

Manufacturers like Bowers & Wilkins, Sonus faber and McIntosh all have extensive legacies in the car audio space as well as luxury home audio, with there being significant crossover potential based on shared experiences.

Dirac Spaces, likewise, gives consumers a taste of what audio processing can do when applied to an audio system without having to already own an expansive home audio system. Dirac automotive technologies currently appear in vehicles from Volvo, Polestar, Genesis, NIO, BYD and other global brands.

Where Can You Experience Dirac Spaces?

At AES Detroit, Dirac will showcase Dirac Unison and Dirac Spaces in the Volvo EX90, while the Karma Revero will showcase Dirac Unison and Dirac Dimensions, highlighting Dirac’s growing portfolio of software-defined automotive audio solutions.

Dirac will also showcase its latest collaboration with Pioneer through a demonstration in a Volvo XC90 equipped with Pioneer speakers, highlighting Dirac Unison integrated into Pioneer’s Integrated Sound Platform (ISP).

The demonstration will also feature Klippel technology, illustrating how Pioneer’s scalable amplifier platform enables advanced software-defined audio technologies to work together within a single integrated system.
