Takeaways
- HAA Link audio calibration software bypasses device-specific displays to create a unified calibration interface.
- Companion app allows integrators to test and adjust system performance simultaneously.
- Available now on Hyperion Series processors from AudioControl.
The Home Acoustics Alliance (HAA) has released a new calibration software designed specifically for custom integrators. Named HAA Link, the software is designed to streamline the way home theater systems are tuned while creating opportunities for new acoustic calibration services.
Gerry Lemay, founder of the HAA, says that the HAA Link software was designed in response to having to calibrate components via onscreen displays, which he considers to be a “nightmare” for integrators.
“HAA Link makes it simple and furthers the Home Acoustics Alliance’s goal to formalize calibration as a repeatable, standards-based discipline.”
What Does HAA Link Do?
According to the alliance, the HAA Link software is built around simplifying the calibration experience while still being able to support stringent audio standards (such as CEDIA RP22 and RP32).
The main improvement, the HAA states, is that integrators can evaluate and adjust system performance simultaneously using the companion HAA CinemaTools with HAA Link app. This not only aims to reduce repeated measurement cycles during the calibration process but also bypasses the onscreen display of devices in favor of a more unified interface.
The HAA Link app provides integrators with 14 parametric equalization filters per channel, an onboard suite of test tones for every channel and Global EQ controls for optimized and speedy speaker alignment.
Additionally, the software provides integrators options to directly calibrate systems in line with HAA standards through multiple HAA Mode presets based on specific scenarios.
Why Integrators Should Take Notice
Calibrating audio system components to the environment has been considered by many to be the key to performance in any home cinema. Joe de Jesus, product manager, PSB Speakers & custom installation at Lenbrook go so far as to point out that much of the overall performance of a theater is dictated by the characteristics of the room itself.
Anthony Grimani and Steve Haas stand as notable acousticians in custom integration; however the prevalence of calibration software has only made it easier for installations to achieve that professional-grade sound, elevating even entry-level systems above what might be expected in an “out-of-the-box” install.
HAA Link Availability
AudioControl’s Hyperion Series AV processor—available now—is the first component to be certified by the Home Acoustics Alliance through the integration of HAA Link software, which is available now as a pro feature upgrade on the processor.
HAA Link can be licensed by qualifying receiver and preamp/processor manufacturers to its audio calibration services their devices.
