ULTIMA is Magnetar’s Big Bet on Physical Media in Luxury Audio

The new media transport looks to establish a new benchmark for reference-level playback, incorporating a new power architecture and master clock system.

Magnetar has announced the debut of ULTIMA, a luxury media transport featuring a dedicated DC power stage. Engineered as a pure reference source, ULTIMA—according to Magnetar—is designed to perform one function without compromise: preserve source integrity from disc to display or external processor for home theater and audio.

ULTIMA is built on Magnetar’s MKII platform supporting a swathe of formats including UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, CD and much more alongside supporting Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

A Closer Look at ULTIMA by Magnetar

According to Magnetar, ULTIMA comes equipped with a dedicated DC power architecture that uses dedicated BYD lithium-based power stages to isolate critical transport, clocking, and signal pathways from noise, fluctuations and contamination elements. Uniquely, this allows for the creation of a stable, low-noise operating environment for playback.

Alongside the new power architecture is a synchronized master clock system anchored around a unified 10 MHz reference. According to Magnetar, this helps maintain precise system timing across the player for stable, accurate transmission to downstream components. What this means is the entire system operates from a single “time axis” with synchronized, predictable data flow and timing relationships.

Moving out to the physical construction of the ULTIMA, a massively reinforced chassis minimizes vibration, suppresses resonance and maintains stability during operation. Additionally, internally isolated components shield sensitive circuits from unwanted interference while controlled grounding and power distribution further reduce problematic electrical interaction between subsystems.

Magnetar also says, the transport mechanism itself has been refined to result in better disc read stability, vibration management and data integrity.

Why Integrators Should Take Note

In designing the ULTIMA, Magnetar states that it built the component from the ground up, with the unique power architecture serving as one of the highlights of the product. Instead of relying exclusively on traditional AC-supplied power, the newer architecture works to better isolate the device from common noise and contamination.

Pricing and Availability

The Magnetar ULTIMA is now shipping and available through Magnetar’s authorized dealer and distributor network at an MSRP of $12,000. ULTIMA will be on display at CEDIA Expo 2026 in Booth 4103.
