AVA has announced the release of the AVA OS 3.0, the biggest evolution of its professional smart home control platform since AVA OS debuted at CEDIA Expo 2023. Launching September 15, AVA OS 3.0 brings more than 100 new tools, features, integrations, and improvements, led by a new visual Custom UI Builder, Dynamic Keypad customization, 31 languages, Crestron Home and Philips Hue compatibility, KNX general availability as well as new ways to back up, restore, and expand projects.

Every capability will come as a free software update for compatible AVA systems, including those already installed.

A Deeper Look at the Features of AVA OS 3

Baseline, AVA OS intelligently generates the user interfaces for Cinema Remote and for the AVA app all based on the project’s devices and connections.

On AVA OS 3.0, the new Custom UI Builder lets pros freely reshape the generated interface with a live visual preview. Buttons, widgets, cover art and other elements can be positioned directly, making it faster to tailor. AVA OS 3.0 also opens AVA’s Dynamic Keypad to full customization for the first time.

AVA OS 3.0 also brings encrypted project backup and restore to every compatible system meaning that with one click, pros can create a complete backup and restore it on different AVA hardware with device configurations and authenticated drivers intact.

Integrations

AVA OS 3.0 also adds multiple integrations, including an expansion of the existing Lutron integration with Caséta and RadioRA 2. They join existing support for RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks. Alongside this, the OS adds compatibility with Crestron Home as well as Philips Hue integration with dimming, color control, and Dynamic Keypad support.

Finally, the new OS moves KNX, one of the world’s most widely adopted building automation standards, from beta to general availability—extending compatibility to thousands of products from hundreds of manufacturers across global markets.

Additional Features

Beyond its headline features, AVA OS 3.0 includes more than 100 additions spanning control, setup, performance, personalization, and service, many of which reflect input from AVA’s pro community.

One such request lets Cinema Remote use its built-in IR emitter in Nano Brain-based projects, decreasing hardware and labor in a project. AVA OS 3.0 also adds shade tilt and up/down dimming controls, while the two-way volume overlay gains new options, including the ability to display volume in decibels instead of absolute values.

Full details will be published in the AVA OS 3.0 release notes.

“Designers have a responsibility to make everyday technology feel natural,” said Christie Fisher Barry, Head of Design at AVA.

“For decades, remote controls forced a choice between simplicity and having every function at hand. We wanted the tactile confidence of buttons you can use without looking down, with the adaptability of a touchscreen. Seeing how quickly pros and customers embraced Dynamic Keypad has been incredible.”

Availability

AVA is releasing AVA OS 3.0 as a free over-the-air update to all AVA OS systems on September 15.
