This incredible home in Tiverton, Rhode Island features sweeping views, loads of windows, a robust smart home system, and utilizes motorized blackout shades to great effect, and nowhere is that illustrated better than in the primary bedroom, enthuses TSP Smart Spaces President Michael Oh. Featuring Italian crystal downlighting from Leucos, custom Lutron drapery and roller shades, the space offers rich natural lighting and regal, luxurious feel.

However, the room’s greatest asset, its colossal bay window that looked out onto the countryside, proved to be a slight hinderance to the client’s wishes of being able to transform their primary suite into a personal home theater.

“Due to the design of the room and the abundance of windows, we took a unique approach to the AV,” notes Oh. “A short-throw projector designed to be nearly hidden in the ceiling, while also installing Sonance architectural speakers, as well as a projector screen with motorized blackout shades allows the room to shift in and out of home theater mode easily,” Oh says. 

Oh states that the LG ultra-short-throw projector used, while not being your typical bedroom video display, offered a solution that maintained the stunning vista and didn’t interfere with the drapery and shades.

Everything in the space can be controlled via Lutron SeeTouch keypads, including preset scenes that highlight the space. The Lutron HomeWorks QS system is also integrated into a larger Savant system.

This allows the clients to wind down with some relaxing entertainment in the evening, create a nice dark atmosphere for them to comfortably sleep in, and wake up the next morning with their own natural alarm clock as automations raise the motorized blackout shades.

Aaron Stallings, TSP Smart Spaces’ director of smart spaces, designed the lighting scheme for the entire home, and his talent is especially on display in this room, where he integrated the elegant Leucos decorative downlights. “The crystal faceted lens from these lighting created unique lighting patterns and allowed for dramatic lighting scenes to be implemented,” Oh adds.
