The Pronto TSU9600 handheld controller features two-way control and feedback, an open Java programming platform and a modest price point.

“The new Javascript capability is a fundamental change for the better as it allows the programmer/installer to use pre-written modules that give the client control and feedback,” says Kevin Gannon, project manager for Phoenix-based Status LLC.

Indeed, several popular vendors (including Aprilaire, HAI, Kaleidescape, NuVo and Vudu) have created two-way control modules in the Java environment, known as ProntoScript in Philips parlance.

Plus, the TSU9600 looks good. The design is definitely one of the biggest reasons for specifying the TSU9600, Gannon says. “I think clients respond to a sleek controller the same way they respond to a sleek sports car.”

With companion RF base stations, the TSU9600 can communicate two ways via IP or RS-232.

The unit features a 3.7-inch 640 x 480 LCD screen with built-in 802.11 and speakers.
