Overlooking California from a hilltop manse in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood, this open concept home cinema provides a straightforward, yet solid design from DSI Luxury Technology that highlights the marvels one can make out of a simple set of products. Combined, the systems provided by DSI help maintain the warm, open concept design of the original space, while still allowing its occupants to extricate themselves from the outside world when needed, and dive into their own media wonderland.

Floor-to-Ceiling Windows Offer Glimpses of Los Angeles Skyline

The biggest challenge of the project came within location itself. The same windows that offered expansive views of the California cityscape weren’t exactly the best when it came to creating a dark viewing environment. Even worse were the acoustic capabilities of glass on offer.

The room itself was also essentially open concept. A great quality in any other gathering space; a potential nightmare for people looking to craft an immersive home theater experience to fit with the big screen aspirations of this client. There also couldn’t be any trace of the theater system visible in the design, apart from the television screen.

‘Movie Mode’ Scene Transforms Open Concept Room into Luxury Home Cinema

In what has become an ever-growing trend for the channel, the team at DSI Luxury Technologies opted for a massive microLED marvel from LG. Spanning a massive 162 inches, the display is able to capture the immersion of the silver screen while, at the same time, managing to feel appropriately sized for this colossal media room.

The team then went with a set of Origin Acoustics speakers for the main audio, creating a custom fabric grill that hid the right, center, and left speakers, while also concealing the accompanying subwoofers. Marantz electronics provided the finishing touches for audio distribution throughout the space.

As the final knot the bow, a Crestron control system was used to tie both the entertainment and Lutron lighting and shading systems in with one another. In speaking with DSI, Eric Thies stated that the team programmed a custom scene to lower the six shades and dim the lights whenever the client wanted transform this open concept living space into a high-end home theater.
