The sun is the star in this awarding-winning 9,000-square foot turnkey high-rise condo. Located at the prestigious Turnberry Ocean Club in Sunny Isles, Fla, the condo was worked on by Premium Digital Control & Automation and employs a plethora of home automation technologies and circadian lighting techniques to create a luxurious and more natural lighting environment for its residents.
With a Control4 EA-3 controller acting as the main system, Lutron’s QSX muscular processor helps guide the homeowners through automated events during the day tailored to their lifestyle with no human interaction with the system, notes Shaun Elwin, project manager of Premium Digital Control & Automation.
Premium Digital Delights in Custom, Automated Lighting Scenes
As requested by the homeowner, Premium Digital programmed one of the events to make the Lutron Sivoia shades open at sunrise in the common areas on the west side of the residence and have the audio system (featuring Triad speakers and an AudioControl amplifier) play a specific music genre in the kitchen and family room at a pre-set volume level.
From sunrise to midday, the circadian lighting system turns on lights in the common areas at a pre-set schedule and changes light levels throughout the day based on custom programming and conditionals. Premium Digital’s system has multiple macros that can be initiated by the user from a press on a Lutron keypad and depending on the time of day, the temperature and lighting, for instance, will vary to create the perfect ambiance for the user’s mood.
The centralized lighting control system power calculation was designed based on the lighting designer’s fixture selection and fixture quantities. This information gave Premium Digital Control the necessary power/wattage consumption needed for it to select the correct dimming modules and lighting load zoning for proper power consumption.
