A Custom Inverted Projector Delivers Dual-Theater Experience in Las Vegas Penthouse

With the original design for a projector shot by architectural limitations, Innovative Home Systems engineered a clever workaround for a split-function theater system.

In a luxury high-rise residence overlooking the Las Vegas Strip, this home theater blends cinema-style performance within set architectural constraints. The project, run by Innovative Home Systems, transformed a primary living space into an immersive entertainment environment without compromising the panoramic skyline views.

Two Theater Experiences in One Penthouse Suite

The great room area hosts a more casual listening experience compared to the living room theater.

According to Jeff Brown, President of Innovative Home Systems, the Las Vegas penthouse is set up to deliver two distinct home theater experiences.

In the main gathering area, a custom UST projector combined with a hidden dropdown screen creates a cinematic center point when needed. Beyond it, the great room serves as a more casual environment, featuring an immersive surround sound system. While one focuses on the visual experience, the other goes the route of a listening room.

Together, the two spaces form a cohesive (if bifurcated) custom home theater installation, split between cinematic impact and all-day entertainment.

A Cinematic Experience that Preserves Scenic Las Vegas Strip Views

To maintain an unobstructed view of the Las Vegas strip, the Las Vegas penthouse has a 106-inch motorized drop-down screen from Screen Innovations installed directly in front of expansive pocket doors.

When deployed, the screen creates a cinematic focal point. When retracted, the space returns to an open-concept living area with full access to the skyline.

This approach highlights a growing trend in custom home theater installation where integrating entertainment technology into multi-use spaces comes without sacrificing design or natural light.

Overcoming Ceiling Constraints in a Penthouse Home Theater

As explained by Brown, the original design called for a traditional projection system, but a critical ceiling height limitation made a standard setup impossible. Rather than scaling back the vision, the team at Innovative Home Systems engineered a custom projection solution tailored specifically to the space.

A short-throw projector setup, utilizing a Sony laser projector mounted in an inverted position, kept the original plan intact. The projector is concealed within a custom steel enclosure fabricated by Auton, featuring a precision-cut opening that allows the lens to project cleanly while remaining hidden when not in use.

Immersive Surround Sound System Completes the Experience

Audio processing is handled by AudioControl, delivering precise system calibration and control. The speaker array features Focal 1000 Series components, paired with hidden subwoofers to provide deep, impactful bass.

Additional coverage is achieved through Meyer Sound speakers in adjacent areas, ensuring consistent audio performance throughout the space.

In the great room, an AudioControl X9 processor handles the experience, driving multiple hidden in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, along with multiple concealed subwoofers, to provide a rich, enveloping audio experience for everyday use.

In all, the project presents a solution that not only overcomes architectural constraints but also redefines how a home theater can function within a modern, design-forward penthouse environment.
