Manhattan Media Room Receives a Clever Touch Up from Sound & Vision

The irregular shape and tight design constrictions of this downtown apartment almost proved to be a deal-breaker before Meridian got introduced.

Deep within the heart of Manhattan, with a direct view to Central Park, this 4,000 square-foot apartment saw a renovation of its living room into an advanced media room. The owner, being an electronics enthusiast with a passion of music and movies, sought to transform the space into an audiovisual haven, and to assist in this vision, integrator Sound & Vision Advanced Technologies and distributor Apex Technologies were enlisted onto the project.

At first blush, the media room brought forward several challenges. The shape, overall, was awkward, with the center-channel loudspeaker being unable to be positioned centrally. There were also some structural constraints that were imposed by the architect, as well as a dropdown projector already in place that had parts of the screen extending into the hallway.

To top it all off, neither the designer nor the architect wanted the integrator to use floor-standing speakers as a solution.

To address these challenges, Sound & Vision Advanced introduced Meridian into the mix.

“I took my own pair of DSP3200 loudspeakers, with the promise of matching the audio quality of these speakers through a pair of DSP320.2 in-wall loudspeakers in his home,” commented Cezar Neculcea, who headed the project. “The owner was blown away by the performance achieved through the speakers and agreed that Meridian was the best brand choice.”

Using Meridian DSP520.2 in-wall speakers for the centre channel, Meridian DSP320.2 in-wall speakers for left, right and surround channels, as well as a Meridian DSW600 subwoofer, which was driven by a G65 and HDMI switcher, Sound & Vision Advanced then got to work with the main hurdle left to the project being the media room’s shape once again.

Rather than attempting to place the speakers in the wall, however, Sound & Vision Advanced opted for an in-ceiling installation. While the room may have been problematic for in-wall listening, the size and layout of the space allowed for a more optimal listening position with the left and right channels installed overhead, allowing for the center channel to be positioned appropriately for maximum impact.

“When I first saw this project, I was unsure whether to take it on as all the challenges seemed like a lot, but I’m glad we did,” continued Cezar. “Working with Apex Technologies certainly helped play a role in the success of this project. Right from the project’s inception, they provided invaluable support, transforming the experience into more than just a product purchase but a comprehensive service.

“The client is exceptionally satisfied with the results and this project serves as a testament to the ability of Meridian’s innovative audio solutions to overcome even the most challenging room configurations and deliver unparalleled audio quality in the most aesthetically pleasing way.”
