The equipment room in Denote’s ‘Kings’ project is a testament to craftsmanship, blending technology with a sleek, functional design. This server rack is a showpiece that celebrates the beauty of smart home technology. The client, a tech enthusiast, wanted the room to highlight both the cutting-edge equipment and the thoughtful craftsmanship behind it.
LED Lights Are for Visual Assistance as Well as Flair

From custom-made power cables with audiophile-grade connectors to top-quality components throughout, every detail was meticulously planned. Servicing is made simple with Middle Atlantic slide-out racks, surrounded by cabinetry and acoustic slat wall panels. The dimmable LED lighting serves two purposes: making maintenance easier by illuminating the rear of the server racks and adding a striking visual flair to the space.
Compact Server Rack Design Makes for Discreet Storage

Designing this project came with its challenges. Initially, the server rack was set to occupy the entire Mud Room. But partway through, the client requested to keep that space. Denote adapted, shifting the setup to a smaller cupboard and reconfiguring the layout. The team incorporated two 43RU slide-out racks from Middle Atlantic, ensuring the new, compact space could still handle all the required equipment. To keep future options open, a fiber backbone was installed, making it easy to expand into other areas, like a small rack under the desk in the study.
“We are happy with the outcome,” says Jono Dorset, director at Denote. “The gear vents well and the design allows for simple servicing.”
Removable Doors on Electrical Boards Allow for Easier Maintenance Access
The garage houses the main electrical boards, with a wall-mounted cabinet designed to maximize space. It sits high enough to allow a car to park underneath while keeping the equipment easily accessible and protected from dust. For bigger maintenance tasks, the sliding doors can be removed for straightforward access.
Throughout the project, Denote focused on precision and quality, from shielded cabling to power filtration and surge protection. Future-proofing touches, like space for Savant power devices and quick access panels, ensure the server rack will continue to run smoothly for years to come.
