Shade manufacturers have come a long way in refining the cosmetics of their motorized shade cassettes. Still, the best look for many homeowners is no look at all. For this reason, Advanced Integrated Control went to great lengths to ensure the hardware for the Lutron Palladiom shades on this award-winning project was completely hidden via pocket shades embedded in the ceiling.
Working closely with Lutron, the architect, carpenters, and homeowners Advanced Integrated Controls deployed pocket-mounted roller shades throughout eight areas of the home, amounting to 24 shaded pockets in total.
The pockets were custom-designed by the architect, allowing them to blend with the surrounding surface beautifully. However, this required Advanced Integrated Controls to measure carefully and precisely.
Pockets were tucked away into the ceiling layout by modifying the coffered ceiling itself, and as such a miscalculation could compromise the architectural integrity of the home.
Special accommodations were given to separate areas of the home as well.

In the office, where the header height above the windows was modified to allow the Lutron Palladiom shades to fit seamlessly within each window jamb. In the dining room, the shades were also pocketed into the jamb — not an easy feat when dealing with transom windows.
Each set of shades was also fully integrated with Elan technology so the clients can access and control the shades quickly and conveniently from an Elan mobile app on their smartphones, dedicated Elan touchpads, and by voice commands.
Thanks to further programming and integration, the shades also move up and down automatically based on the outdoor temperature, as well as time of the year, so the homeowners can save on heating/cooling costs. It also helps create a more comfortable environment for the homeowners.
Via this technique, the owners can harvest warm sunshine to help heat the house or block out the sun to allow the AC to run more efficiently.
