The newly launched company Bobwire has introduced its first product: The $80 DAT1 Digital Audio Trigger.
The DAT1 Digital Audio Trigger adds an industry-standard 12-volt DC trigger output to any audio product that offers a digital audio SPDIF output.
According to the San Francisco-based manufacturer, the DAT1 Digital Audio Trigger enables products such as the Sonos Connect, Amazon Echo Link, Google Chromecasts, and other devices that don’t incorporate 12-volt triggers to control the on/off functions of connected amplifiers and other gear.
Bobwire emphasizes the 12-volt trigger can be a useful option for integrators because it uses inexpensive 3.5mm mono cables to send on/off commands to amplifiers, smart-home control systems, cooling fans, motorized projection screens and other components.
The product is able to execute these types of functions through its use of onboard software that analyzes the optical digital signal to determine what state connected device is in—powered on, paused or playing music—then it activates on of the two 12-volt outputs accordingly to that operational state.
Bobwire DAT1 Offers More Than Just 12-Volt Trigger Functions
Providing more than just 12-volt trigger capabilities, Bobwire states the DAT1 also includes an optical audio looping output to allow audio signals to pass along to other devices such as DACs (digital to analog converters) or surround-sound receivers for example.
The unit’s analog audio output employs a 24-bit/192kHz internal DAC, and it says the 12-volt triggers are rated to 500mA each to allow these triggers to drive high-power devices, including cooling fans and multiple relays.

Moreover, the DAT1 features LEDs for each of the 12-volt outputs to help integrators during the troubleshooting process.
The company ships the DAT1 Digital Audio Trigger with a high-current power supply, as well as a three-foot optical cable and a six-foot trigger cable.
