5 Things @ CEDIA: Petro Shimonishi Seeks Startups, TiO, Haikus
CE Pro Blog Mobster Petro Shimonishi heads to CEDIA Expo 2013 in search of networked A/V and control solutions, biometric technologies, start-ups and more.
We asked the CE Pro Blog Mob what five things they can’t wait to see at CEDIA Expo 2013. Blog Mobster or not, let us know what things you want to see or hope to see at the show, and we’ll post them here. Email email@example.com.
1. Wireless Networked A/V & Automation Systems
I can’t believe it’s been nine years since NetStreams introduced the first wired networked audio distribution system on the market. This year, I’m looking forward to seeing who is taking networked A/V and control solutions to the next level with wireless offerings and how DIY home automation devices like Nest thermostats and wireless dimmers can be easily integrated. I’m also looking to see who has the most elegant solutions to bridge the multitude of wireless protocols out there—Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, ZigBee, etc. There has to be a way to integrate all of this. (Maybe Revolv? - JJ)
2. Android Integrated Solutions
I can’t wait to get a demo of the Android-driven TIO home automation system and see what other Android-driven solutions are out there. Android now comprises the majority of the global smartphone market and it will be interesting to see who has elegant Android control/streaming solutions at the show.
3. Biometric Security Trends
Given Apple’s new iPhone announcement and the NSA issues that have been covered in the press over the summer, I am very interested to see if any control/security manufacturers are introducing biometric solutions for home security, and to find out how they plan to address consumer concerns regarding privacy and security of their fingerprint/retina scans.
The CEDIA Expo is the launching pad for many startups and I will be actively looking to cover new companies with cool solutions for installers.
5. Blog Mob Haiku Contest
Last year many of the Haiku attempts were wrong and most were downright funny. (Hint: 5-7-5, Blog Mobsters).
