CES 2018: 10 New Smart Home & IoT Devices + Their Prospects for Success

Anyware Smart Adaptor light socket

Their Words:

Smart Home for Everyone: The patent-pending Anyware Smart Adaptor is a small Smart Home system in ONE connected device.  It is designed as the world’s smallest and smartest lamp socket adaptor to ensure a seamless installation by the consumer, and is easily controlled by smartphone.

My Words:

I love the idea of smart sockets. Sadly, Emberlight, one of the first in this category, just closed its doors. Now Anyware wants a go with its even smarter $75 socket, featuring "advanced lighting control and diimming," Bluetooth (BLE), Wi-Fi, ambient light sensor, as sell as sensors for sound, temperature and humidity.

Do I want it? Yes, I definitely do, if price is not a factor. $75 is a lot of money for a smart socket, even one with environmental sensors. Then again, it's Wi-Fi, so no hub is required. But at $75, it might only make sense in a small cabin that only requires a single smart device. Otherwise, buy a hub, and a bunch of smart switches and sensors.

Will it make it? Sadly, no. This seems to be the only product from Anyware Solutions, and it's hard to get any retail love with a one-hit company. I can't quite figure out why the big smart-bulb makers haven't made smart sockets, but there must be a reason. And the ambient sensors onboard the socket will be found on every other device in the home, so unless this product is your only smart device -- like maybe for a garage or granny flat -- then there won't be much of a need for it within a year.
