Hafler is a legendary name in the world of professional audio. Not too long ago, the high-performance audio manufacturer Radial Engineering acquired the brand and revived it. Now Hafler has announced that its PH50B and PH60B phono preamplifiers are now available.
Hafler says its latest products provide integrators and vinyl enthusiasts with a convenient way to play their favorite records via unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) outputs in home or professional audio systems.
In professional systems, Hafler points out that audio engineering legends, including Alan Parsons and Chuck Ainlay, are using the products via their balanced XLR connections, which enable easy connections to mixing consoles and recording interfaces to support the playback and digitalization of vinyl.
The PH50B phono preamplifier is designed for use with moving magnet (MM) phono cartridges. The PH60B phono preamplifier adds a second gain stage for use with low-output moving coil (MC) phono cartridges.
Both phono preamplifiers feature gold-plated RCA inputs and outputs, and Hafler emphasizes that true +4dB line level signals are available at the XLR outputs, which can be switched to -10dB operation via an internal push switch.
Other features include ground-lift switches that help to eliminate the buzz and hum that comes with ground loops when the XLR outputs are used. A low-cut filter eliminates extreme low frequencies and turntable rumble, and the PH60 MC/MM phono preamplifier adds internal jumpers that adjust the input impedance for matching the phono preamp with various MC phono cartridges.
The PH50B MM phono preamplifier carries an MSRP of $450, and the PH60B MM/MC phono preamplifier carries an MSRP of $550.
