Yamaha has announced that its AVENTAGE line of AV receivers now supports Works with Sonos certification, enabling tighter integration with Sonos whole-home audio systems. The new capability is available through a free firmware update for all current AVENTAGE models, including the RX-A8A, RX-A6A, RX-A4A, and RX-A2A.
Yamaha says the update allows integrators and homeowners to use a Sonos Port to connect a Sonos system to a Yamaha AVENTAGE receiver. The Sonos app can then power on the receiver, switch to the appropriate input, and adjust volume automatically, streamlining multi-room audio control.
According to Yamaha, the update is designed to appeal to both custom integrators and high-end home theater enthusiasts.
“AVENTAGE is our premium AV receiver line, the top choice for custom integration professionals and passionate home theater enthusiasts, making it ideal for Works with Sonos integration,” said Ikuo Tanaka, Group Manager, Home Audio Group at Yamaha Corporation. “This integration exemplifies how our customers consistently gain powerful new features and capabilities through our firmware updates.”
Setup for the Sonos integration is handled via Yamaha’s MusicCast app, which continues to support streaming and system control features. Both the firmware update and the updated MusicCast app are now available for download.
Yamaha released those four AV receivers four years ago, and they’re capable of handling 7.2, 9.2 and 11.2-channel systems, and they range in price from about $1,000 to about $3,000.
