Gibson Guitar is one of the most well known companies in the world. Its name is synonymous with excellence in music and audio. Approximately 26 years ago, a group of investors led by Henry Juszkiewicz purchased the once proud musical instrument company, which at the time was experiencing lackluster sales and a general disinterest in its products. Shortly after acquiring the company, Juszkiewicz and his staff began the process of restoring the Gibson name to its former glory. Today, Gibson is the preeminent guitar manufacturer, and recently Juszkiewicz set his…

If you or a client have had problems with a new Onkyo product, stop cursing at it. Onkyo wants to make things right. Onkyo is offering free repairs on select AV receivers, as well as some receiver/speaker packages, according to Twice. Onkyo says the components in question were made during November 2011 and January 2012, and suffer from “non-safety-related defects.” Those problems could include noise at low levels or problems with the AVR shutting down on its own. The receivers in question include the TX-8255, TX-8050, HT-RC360, TX-SR309, TX-NR609, TX-NR709,…

Last week Onkyo announced a strategic partnership with Gibson Guitar, now it's cranking up its 2012 receivers with cloud storage. Onkyo has announced plans to partner with MP3tunes.com, giving Onkyo owners access to the service’s cloud-based Locker that provides up to 2GB of music storage absolutely free. That 2GB should hold about 400 of your favorite songs. If that type of storage isn’t going to cut it, there are fee-based accounts, which start at $39.95 per year for 50GB. Once your music is in the cloud, it can be streamed…

Julie Jacobson | 07/14 07:30 AM,
14 Comments
The online music service Spotify has more than 10 million registered users and 1.6 million paying subscribers … none of them in the U.S. until today. Allegedly the second largest source of digital music revenue for European labels, Spotify makes its U.S. debut three years after it was launched in Sweden. Onkyo is possibly the first U.S. manufacturer to announce that the service will be available in its A/V components via a free firmware update. ‘We are excited to be able to provide this update to owners of our 2011…

Onkyo BD-SP809 3D Blu-ray Disc Player
Robert Archer | 07/08 08:29 AM,
Onkyo is one of the most widely distributed manufacturers of consumer electronics in the world. Unlike its competition, which often times delivers products with cutting edge technologies before Onkyo to stay ahead of the pack, Onkyo waits to see how the market develops before taking the plunge. The Japanese company's latest source component is a good example of that wait-and-see approach. Onkyo's new THX Certified BD-SP809 incorporates the ability to play 3D Blu-ray discs, as well as other physical media formats like CDs and DVDs, and through the use of…

Professional Audio Associates (PAA) really knows how to throw a party. The New England distributor hosted its fourth annual open house on June 22 to the delight of hundreds of local integrators who stopped by throughout the day for show specials from over 30 vendors. The event, hosted by Lew Freedman, gives the distributor a chance to showcase new product for its dealer base. The day was rainy, which meant people were elbow to elbow inside the Woburn, Mass. facility. PAA catered the event with an outdoor barbeque under tents.…
