Meridian’s Explorer DAC: Turnkey Solution for Computer Audio Excellence

Products like Meridian's Explorer USB digital-to-analog converter represent the future of computer audio. CE Pro demonstrates how to install the Explorer DAC into a Mac-based computer audio setup.

Meridian’s $299 Explorer DAC includes state-of-the-art technologies, a space-friendly footprint and installs within a matter of minutes to provide computer audio listeners with a turnkey audio upgrade.

Meridian’s introduction of the Explorer digital-to-analog converter (DAC) couldn’t have been timed more perfectly. The Explorer is one of what may soon be a growing amount of thumb drive-sized DACs that are reasonably priced for consumers who listen to audio from their computers and tablets.

The DAC includes state-of-the-art features such as asynchronous data transfer technologies, as well as technologies developed for Meridian’s benchmark 800 series products in a device that carries an MSRP of $299.

Best of all for electronics installers, the DAC is a plug-and-play solution that complement’s Apple’s line of computers. Microsoft and Linux users will also find the Explorer to be as nearly as easy to use as Mac users, and once it’s installed it can deliver resolutions as high as 24-bit/192kHz.

In this video, we demonstrate how to connect the Explorer to an Apple iMac and iPad.

This thing sounds fantastic. The Dragonfly is really good, but this is awesome. If you can swing $299 and have a decent set of headphones, buy it!
