18 Blu-ray Players For Your Next Install

Is there a Blu-ray player right for you and your clients?

The format war is over.

Toshiba has thrown in the towel, and Blu-ray has been declared the victor.

But if you're an integrator who didn't recommend one format or the other to your clients, you still have a decision to make: is there a Blu-ray player right for you?

Unlike HD DVD, whose players were nearly all manufactured by Toshiba, there are a number of companies making Blu-ray players -- and they're all different.

Sony, the primary force behind Blu-ray, itself has a number of players, including one for its Elevated Standard line, a 200 disc changer and home media unit, and a media center PC.

And that's not even counting the PlayStation 3, arguably the most popular Blu-ray player.

So if you're ready to recommend a Blu-ray player to your customers, take a look at some of the options. We round 18 Blu-ray players currently available or set to come out in the near future, including standalone units, custom-friendly brands and media center PCs.

This isn't every Blu-ray player, but these are the units custom installers are likely to find right for their customers.

I disagree with the contents of your article.

Question #1 for EVERYONE buying Blu-ray:

Will the firmware 100% support Blu-ray version 2.0?

Anyone who recommends any BR player that won’t is scum.  Are you scum?

I completely agree with Bob.
Blu-ray Profile v2.0 gives Blu-ray features equivilent to what HD-DVD had from the start.

Anyways, I am glad a format won. I am waiting for players to get below $200. And when I get a Blu-ray player, I hope Sony isn’t true to itself, by installing a rootkit on it, or it’s disks, that’ll screw up my home network.

Oh yeah, if Blu-ray continues to take to long to get it’s act together, Downloadable movies may make it fail.
