MartinLogan Motion Foundation Speakers Incorporate New Tweeter Designs
MartinLogan points out the Motion Foundation Series employs its new Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter S. According to the company, its latest transducer delivers performance that surpasses conventional tweeters. MartinLogan explains that by folding thin-film material it has achieved greater surface area in a compact space to provide improved detail and clarity.
Describing some of the other features its latest product line incorporates, the company says that Controlled Dispersion is a prominent feature of its new line of speakers. MartinLogan emphasizes this technology optimizes room acoustics and minimizes the detrimental effects commonly associated with speaker placement. By focusing the sound into the listening area, MartinLogan asserts the speakers provide homeowners and integrators with increased flexibility, clarity, and enhanced placement options, regardless of the room’s design.
“The Motion Foundation Series represents a significant milestone for MartinLogan,” comments Andrew Lindsey, Product Manager at MartinLogan. “We believe in making it possible for a wider audience to experience true high-fidelity sound. We leveraged our 40 years of design and engineering experience to meticulously refine every aspect of these speakers to achieve the best possible performance. This kind of expertise is not commonly seen in this range of products. Each detail has been carefully crafted to provide an extraordinary audio experience at an amazing value.”
Getting more technical details about the speakers’ design, MartionLogan says the Folded Motion Waveguide enhances the Controlled Dispersion of the Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter S to help the speakers’ tweeters cover a wider listening area. By focusing the speakers’ dispersion towards the listening area, MartinLogan continues, the product line avoids performance-robbing room reflections to deliver more consistent sound across a wider seating area, creating an immersive audio experience for all listeners.
Some of the other design elements of the Motion Foundation Series include new aluminum midrange and bass drivers that are the result of trickle-down technology developments from the company’s Motion XT and Motion Series.
Further contributing attributes of the series include the product line’s center-channel speaker that features an Anti-Lobing 2.5-way design, which is said to minimize tonality alteration commonly found in 2-way center channel designs without the larger cabinet requirements typically associated with 3-way designs. MartinLogan claims this results in a more furniture-friendly size, clearer dialogue and increased tonal accuracy.
“The Motion Foundation Series represents the culmination of extensive research and development,” adds Lindsey.
“Following the approach we used with our premium Motion XT and Motion series products, Motion Foundation takes into account anechoic measurements, in-room testing, and blind listening tests resulting in a line of speakers that sets high benchmarks for performance and value within their class.”
