For this Northern Michigan vacation home overlooking Torch Lake, almost 45 minutes from the nearest major town, the client wanted the ultimate home theater space to enjoy their downtime – somewhere they could relax and experience truly immersive entertainment. Spire Integrated Systems leaned on Meridian Audio products to provide an extra-special retreat inside the vacation getaway.
Troy, Mich.-based Spire Integrated Systems worked with the client, builder and other trade partners to create the ideal setting for the customers and ensure every component was built for optimal sound and video quality.
For the special home theater space, three Meridian Audio DSP640.2 architectural in-wall loudspeakers were installed for the front left, center and front right channels, along with four Meridian Audio DSP320 in-ceiling speakers for the four surround channels. A Meridian Audio G65 Sound Controller, along with a two JL Audio E112 subs, were also incorporated into the system.
The Meridian Audio DSP640.2 speakers offer high SPLs (Sound Pressure Levels) and strong bass performance capabilities. The first products to be powered by the Meridian Audio ‘CLASS-M’ DSP engine, the double precision aux filter improves resolution on low frequencies, and the built-in dynamic bass protection technology maximizes bass extension, according to the company.
Eight power amplifiers deliver 100W per drive unit and L+R mode for the ultimate, high-power soundbar applications, while the speakers’ super-slim mounting depth of only 100mm means they can be easily fitted into any home theater space. Plus, the grilles can be painted to blend seamlessly into any interior, creating a stylish and minimalist, clutter-free environment in which to relax.

Spire Integrated Systems carefully positioned the Meridian Audio speakers in the room to deliver exceptional definition, crystal clear highs and full, deep bass, the integrator reports. Meridian’s proprietary Image Elevation technology raises the perceived image location from an under-screen loudspeaker so that it appears to come from the center of the screen, resulting in lifelike and spacious sound.
Spire Integrated Systems Has Immersive Cinema Covered
For cinematic quality images to match the audio in this home theater, Spire Integrated Systems opted for a Sony VPL-VW695 Native 4K projector – compatible with IMAX Enhanced content – with a Meridian Audio UHD722 HDMI Processor and Sony Ultra Blu-ray player. The homeowners and their guests can relax on the custom leather Cineak couch while enjoying their favorite movie or concert.
The theater room also benefits from a Savant automation system, iPad interface with IPORT LuxePort charging station, Lutron HomeWorks lighting control and DMF recessed lighting plus Sirs-e LED strip lighting.
Sound diffusing and absorbing panels from Complete Acoustic Treatment System (Complete-ATS) were designed, installed and patterned to take only the sound that is injected into the room and steady it, according to Spire.
Covered with acoustically transparent stretch fabric, these panels were installed on all four walls including behind the screen, in-between the in-wall speakers, as well as on the ceiling.
Spire had sealed the interior of the room with ¼-inch Quiet Barrier vinyl sound dampening material and the gaps in material closed with soundproofing tape. The exterior walls were also covered in the same way minus the wall adjacent the exterior.
Spire also enlisted Meridian for the property’s living room, which has an attached games room. A pair of Meridian Audio DSP7200 custom color-matched speakers, equipped with a Meridian Audio 218 digital controller, flank each side of the fireplace, which has a 75-inch TV over it, installed in the custom stone wall.
The floorstanding speakers complement the natural stone while providing authentic, high-quality sound.
