D&H New England Event Offers Taste of Residential Market
VARs got taste of residential market at D&H's New England Technology Show.
There was an invasion of red shirts at D&H Distributing’s 18th annual New England Technology Show at the Boston Quincy Marriott Hotel.
The bright red shirts donned by D&H employees were ubiquitous throughout the company’s longest-running regional event, which expected to attract 800 integrators and 64 vendors.
New technology was also ubiquitous, much of which is applicable for residential CE pros looking to provide complete IT service to their clients.
Likewise, several commercial VARs on hand told CE Pro that residential networks is a growing part of their business.
Some of the key exhibitors included: Microsoft, Cisco, Intel, HP, Linksys, and Syspine.
D&H welcomed several new vendors, including Clear One Communications (professional audio conferencing), Dialogue Technology USA (“Flybook” ultra-portable PCs), Corinex (high-speed IP powerlines) and Palit Multimedia (graphics cards).
Most of the vendors appeared to be offering show specials to attendees of 10 percent discounts or more.
Wi-Ex was exhibiting with a range of residentially focused products designed to boost the strength of cellular phone signals in homes.
Six education seminars explored topics such as Microsoft’s new Response Point VoIP solution for SMB, and Syspine’s complementary hardware; software licensing opportunities; remote network management; and more.
According to Steve Deming of Microsoft, the digital IP phone system can be set up in less than 30 minutes. “It’s literally plug and play,” he says.
But the coolest part is the built-in voice recognition technology. The product is best suited for a small office installation.
To help resellers profit from the thriving SMB server market (especially in an otherwise questionable economy), D&H offered a Server Solutions booth at the show, where attendees received one-on-one advice from D&H’s Server Specialists on how to assemble and market specific server solutions.
Bankers Warranty Group also had a booth to help VARs and dealers take advantage of long-term hardware warranty agreements. This is a new service being offered by D&H.
“It’s crucial for us to offer a venue like this on a recurring basis,” says Dan Schwab, co-president at D&H Distributing.
“The market is continually changing and refreshing itself, so it’s a challenge for our customer base to get enough hands-on information to fully capitalize on the latest trends.
“VARs and dealers need an opportunity like this to get the knowledge right in front of them, whether it’s on how to sell a server-based network, or what new programs D&H has waiting for them.”
