Poppy seeds have a very small amount of opium. So when the poppy seed issue was discovered, the drug tests were adjusted to read the amounts of opiate in the system. How do you test for alcohol abuse? This, I feel, is the biggest cause of lost productivity in work performance. You don’t even have to be using or under the influence on the job. Your performance can be affected by being hungover from the night before when you were on your own time. Making it harder is the fact that it is socially acceptable and readily available. Marijuana use on one’s own time is a minor problem compared to alcohol which is available and legal everywhere.
