Lutron has unveiled a new feature for its shading systems aimed at making so shades are able to move automatically throughout the day in accordance with the natural progression of the sun called Natural Light Optimization (NLO).
According to Lutron, NLO uses information based on a property’s latitude, longitude, and window orientation to adjust shade positions automatically. These positions cycle through Direct Sun, No Direct Sun, and Night Positions for easy setup of lighting automations.
It’s not yet been confirmed, but from the looks of things, it seems as though, rather than using sensors, the feature is using actual data pulled from sunlight readings based on a household’s physical location.
This new NLO feature is compatible with HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA 3 systems and can be integrated with Palladiom, Sivoia, and Triathlon roller shades. It also features four pre-programmed templates that add a few different options to setup.
According to Lutron, the feature is meant to make it simpler for professionals to customize rooms and windows, adjust offsets, and fine-tune settings to fit client needs whether it’s do reduce glare, minimize sun damage, control heat gain, or work in tandem with a circadian lighting system.
