Linear lighting has become quite a popular fixture within the already popular lighting fixture category with many award-winning projects heavily leveraging the flexible luminaries. So it makes sense that Lutron, the company quite literally named for lighting, would eventually expand its Lumaris tape light portfolio with some Instagrammable RGB+ tape lights.
The company is also releasing a new 5-channel controller native to Lutron RadioRA3 and HomeWorks QSX systems that is meant to make controlling these fixtures on Lutron’s lighting control platform a lot easier as well.
A Closer Look at the New Lumaris RGB+ Tape Lights
Introduced back at CEDIA Expo 2023, the debut offering of the Lumaris portfolio consisted of a single tunable white tape light, which, while well received, only opened the floodgates for RGB lighting requests, according to Rhodes Baker, Director, Product Management at Lutron.
“But it’s critical you don’t sacrifice an excellent day-to-day white light experience for those special occasions when RGB comes into play,” he noted.
It seems only fitting then that the company would announce the much awaited addition to the product line at CEDIA Expo 2024, nearly a year to the date from the first launch.

“The new Lumaris RGB + Tunable White tape delivers the high quality of white light Lutron is known for, while enabling fun expressions of color. It gives clients the best of both worlds.”
According to Lutron, the new Lumaris RGB+ Tunable White Tape Lights have a tunable white range of 1800K – 4000K and 90+ CRI, putting them in a nice range to be incorporated into circadian or human-centric lighting systems as well.
The linear lights also feature dimming down to 0.1% with color saturation by RGB.
Lutron is also adding in seven tape light extrusions and lenses of various shapes and depths to its Lumaris portfolio to help streamline ordering. Extrusions come available in 8-foot segments and can be cut to size in the first with power or hand tools.
Additional Entrants into the Lumaris Portfolio
Debuting in tandem with the lights is the Lumaris Wireless Tape Controller, which serves as a combination driver and controller on the Lutron system. It’s powered by Lutron’s Clear Connect Type X technology and offers independent control of color (CCT and RGB) as well as intensity. It can even do Warm Dim, mimicking the look of an incandescent as it lowers.
Color is also adjustable through a variety of means such as preset scene control, automatic control based on time of day (perfect for circadian lighting measures) or manual control via the Lutron app.
Each controller can manage 32.8 feet of tap and can be remotely mounted with terminals that accept 14-22AWG wire. The controller also comes with a New Wiring Verification Mode to help ensure wiring gets done right the first time prior to programming. In addition, integrators can directly check to see the viability of the controller on projects through the New Design Assistant as part of Lutron Designer.
“Everything you need to do tape on a Lutron project, you can now get straight from Lutron,” boasts Baker.
