Josh.ai is officially launching its AI OS while at CEDIA Expo, marking an industry-first as the first AI-powered smart home control platform. According to Josh.AI every product in the Josh.ai ecosystem will be connected via AI OS from its remotes to touchscreens and everything in between.

Attendees to CEDIA Expo 2024 will be able to see AI OS in action at Booth #2928, where Josh will also be showcasing its new Josh Edge and Josh Touchscreen interfaces.

Introducing the First AI-Powered OS for the Smart Home 

Since its founding in 2015, Josh.ai has long been a pursuant of cutting-edge technologies, with the company leveraging AI well before its sudden surge in popularity, and proudly adopting new Large Language Models (LLMs) into its core products as the likes of ChatGPT hit mainstream recognition.

According to Josh, AI OS represents the company’s next achievement as the foundation powering the Josh App, Josh.ai microphones, Josh.ai control processors, web-based Josh Portal, and its two new interfaces; Josh Touchscreen and the Josh-Ready AVA Cinema Remote.

AI OS Security Features

As a complete smart home operating system, AI OS sees the launch of Josh.ai’s security and alarm system capabilities. Leveraging AI, Josh states the OS is able to automatically discover supported security provider devices once connected to the network, and, once authorized, will consolidate control into touch, text and voice interfaces.

Users can then customize automations and push notifications leveraging their security devices. Customers will be able to arm, disarm, and set their systems to arm-away mode. The state of the alarm panel can also send users a push notification, trigger a scene, or be activated by a scene such as “Goodnight” given by voice, the app, a button press, or a conditional automation. 

Josh.ai will also enhance its security features by introducing a new capability called Josh Vision that leverages machine vision intelligence to give users better insights through surveillance footage.

Homeowners can simply ask, “Hey Josh, what is happening at the front door?” Josh.ai will then analyze the camera feed and intelligently describe what it sees to make home monitoring easier and more interactive.

Additionally, Josh states AI OS will enhance the quality and refresh rate of live camera streaming in the Josh App and on Josh Touchscreen. Users can also view real-time streams and act from anywhere in the world. 

Advanced AV Distribution

Josh states that the AI OS will also help enhance entertainment experiences throughout the home through its ability to connect and synchronize media sources across different output zones in the home.

According to Josh, this will allow users to easily transfer content that is currently playing from one area to another. The feature can be managed through the Josh App’s updated video controller or with a simple voice command like, “Hey Josh, listen to the living room TV in the kitchen.”

This updated functionality, Josh asserts, ensures a cohesive and flexible entertainment experience everywhere a client would like to leverage their multi-zone environment.

Advanced Lighting Effects Under AI OS

AI OS also introduces customizable lighting effects that leverage dynamic color patterns and animations, so users can easily create a relaxing atmosphere featuring soft hues or energize a space with vibrant vitality. AI OS allows for control and customization over lighting environments to match any mood or occasion. 

The Josh App and Josh Touchscreen further expand upon this functionality with a new area-level color selector. This feature allows users to select lighting colors for the whole home, or to granularly set the ambiance in specific areas or rooms. 

AI OS Adds in Smart Support Tools

To provide dealers and clients with best-in-class supportability, Josh states AI OS will also include tools for streamlined system oversight and troubleshooting. Thanks to features like direct-to-dealer outreach in the Josh App as well as the optimization of remotely accessible diagnostic tools in the web-based Josh Portal, customers and dealers will be able to communicate with one another to ensure everything is running smoothly. 

Additional Features Coming to AI OS in Future Updates

While these features are being rolled out with the new OS today, Josh.ai is also teasing some new features that will be coming out in later updates such as pool and spa automations, as well as a feature Josh is calling DoorLink.

According to Josh, DoorLink opens two-way communication between the Josh App and Josh Touchscreen with integrated door stations. This intercom functionality enables clients to speak with their visitors from anywhere in the home, or in the world when they are on-the-go, to manage entry without compromising security.

Homeowners can then communicate with guests, verify identities, and grant access to their property with a few simple voice commands, or taps in the Josh App or Josh Touchscreen. For example, Josh.ai can alert a homeowner if someone is at their front gate and, without getting out of their seat, they can simply tell Josh.ai to open their gate all using natural voice commands.

Building on the success of the initial launch of JoshGPT, Josh.ai is also introducing JoshGPT 2.0 for use on the AI OS. The update improves query accuracy while decreasing response time, optimizing answers to everyday questions and complex calculations. AI OS adds JoshGPT 2.0 access to Josh Touchscreen and the Josh-Ready AVA Cinema Remote, as well as automatically updating across all of Josh.ai’s text and voice interfaces. 

In addition, AI OS introduces AI image generation for customizing user interfaces and more natural sounding AI voice assistant options.

Josh.ai has also announced it will begin shipping Josh Touchscreen and Josh Edge products while at CEDIA Expo 2024.
