Location, location, location. It means a lot in real estate, and it means a lot for the MRI Expo hosted this week by MRI Premium Distribution in tiny Sturbridge, Mass.
The town, which is known for its 1830’s re-creative New England living museum called Old Sturbridge Village, also sits at the crossroads of two major interstate highways. The location made it easy for hundreds of integrators from all across New England to drive to the one-day expo that MRI has been holding for more than a decade.
Chris McDonald, owner of Northeast Entertainment Inc. in Baldwinsville, N.Y., was a first-time attendee who traveled several hours from upstate New York. As a one-man shop, McDonald noted how important the event is for him not just to see the products and get some training, but to network with other dealers there.
This year, the event kicked off with several educational sessions from vendors such as Luxul, Lutron, Napco, RTI, Sony, Nest, URC, IC Realtime and Atlas Sound. Home networking was a particular focus with Luxul holding its basic IP Networking Level 1 Basic Training and its Wi-Fi Networking sessions.
Dealers were treated to a lavish sit-down luncheon during the keynote presentation from Lutron’s Blake Deal, sales director for residential sales. The presentation, entitled “Taking Advantage of the Connected Home Opportunity,” focused on the growing middle-income market for home automation services and how dealers can adapt to capture that revenue.
MRI is a member of the PowerHouse Alliance.
