Mike “Sparky” Detmer To Leave Niles Audio
Industry veteran Mike Detmer is leaving Niles after 13 years, most recently as president, following a slew of big shakeups at SpeakerCraft, AVC Group and parent company Nortek.
Mike “Sparky” Detmer is leaving Niles Audio, a Nortek Inc. (Nasdaq: NTK) subsidiary, after 13 years at the company, most recently as president.
He joins a spate of execs that have left Nortek in the past couple of months in the midst of a major reorganization. Niles is part of Nortek’s Audio Video Control (AVC) group.
Formed in 2010, AVC consolidated Niles, Elan Home Systems and Xantech under a single umbrella under the direction of Mark Terry, who last month left the group as president.
At the same time, Nortek added more subsidiaries to the AVC portfolio, including SpeakerCraft, Proficient and Panamax/Furman. Panamax president Bill Pollock replaced Terry as leader of AVC. Long-time SpeakerCraft chief Jeremy Burkhardt left the company as well, replaced by Keith Marshall, president of SpeakerCraft spinoff Proficient.
Nortek has seen a shake-up at the highest levels of the home technology group, with the recent retirements of Grant Rummell (replaced by Sean Burke) as head of the home technology segment and Nortek CEO Richard Bready (replaced by Michael Clarke).
Detmer joined Niles in 1999 as VP sales and marketing and was promoted to president in 2010. Previously, he held the same position at Krell Industries.
Detmer released this message to Niles dealers and associates today:
The Niles brand has a history of leadership and I am honored to have contributed to its rich heritage. In serving customers over the past 13 years I’ve always tried to deliver more than a promise. During that time I was proud to play a key role in introducing ground-breaking products like the Directed SoundField loudspeakers that changed how the custom installation industry views in-ceiling sound and the revolutionary IntelliControl® ICS, the world’s best-selling distributed audio system. More recently I was privileged to be named President and reposition Niles into The AVC Group which provides dealers with a unique business proposition for combining their Niles purchases with leading brands like Elan, Sunfire and Xantech.
Now that Niles is integrating with more Nortek subsidiary brands, the business need for an individual brand president, like me, has passed. Consequently, I’ll be stepping down as Niles President and turning the helm over to a team of seasoned professionals who will manage the brand to yet another level. In order to ensure a smooth transition, I’ll be staying on until September1st. In that time, should you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me via e-mail or on my cell at ###-###-####. I’ll be glad to respond.
That being said, I want to express my sincere gratitude to you our loyal customer for your continued patronage, to our dedicated sales representatives and distributors for promoting the brand to its fullest, to the press for its ongoing coverage, and to my coworkers for their indefatigable professionalism. Additionally I want to thank my immediate staff members, past and present, who reminded me every day that you are only as good as your team and who fulfilled my deepest core value which is to…
“Always deliver more than you promise!”
