GUI Creator Donates Proceeds to CE Pro in Need

Well known for his free graphics for the CE pro community, Mac Burks of guijaboard.com now offers some templates for a fee, with 50% of the proceeds going to Team Angela

Guijaboard.com will continue to provide some graphics for free. Patrons are invited to “Chip In” via Paypal.

Many CE Pros have enjoyed the free templates, icons and tech tips provided by guijaboard.com.

Now the proprieter of the site, Mac Burks, is putting a price tag on some of his latest work – and 50 percent of the proceeds goes to Team Angela, formed by CE veteran Chris Bauer to help support his ailing wife Angela.

"About a month ago I helped a guy with some freebie GUI work," says Burks. "And when I refused payment and suggested he donate money to the Susan G. Komen Foundation instead, he offered to help me configure a shopping cart for my site."

"Tactical" is the first template for sale on guijaboard. "It's meant to mimic the flat black gear used by members of SWAT teams," Burks says.

The site currently has five resolutions of the Crestron template ($200 to $400).

In addition, Tactical is available in a "Graphics Kit" ($250) that is compatible with virtually all user interface software. It includes:
  • Transparent PNG files
  • Firewords layered file
  • Background graphics: 1280x768, 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480, 320x240, 240x320
Guijaboard.com will continue to provide some graphics for free. Patrons are invited to "Chip In" via Paypal.

Donations will flow to Team Angela until that charity drive ends on June 1. After that, Burks will send proceeds to Susan G. Komen.

Thanks Dave and thank you Julie and CEPro!

I started guijaboard as a hobby site for sharing graphics with DIY guys and Custom Installers who browse the AV forums. About 6 months ago it morphed into a blog where i began to follow the GUI Pros and *poof* now its a store! (Thanks Thomas Miller)

Aaron Craig of http://www.ntdesignsonline.com/ helped me bring tactical up to code smile This is the first time i have put together a commercially available template and Aaron took the time to answer any questions i had. CJ O’Neill, owner and builder of The Dark Knight Theater helped me tweak it also. I really appreciate their input, i couldn’t have done it without them.

“What better way to start things off?” is what popped in my head when i read the CEPro article about Team Angela. How awesome would it be to know that something i had fun doing was able to help someone.

Whether you are in the market for a GUI template or not… don’t pass up the opportunity to be part of building a safe and accessible home for someone on our team. I encourage every CI on the planet to pitch in and help Team Angela reach their goal. There is a paypal button right on the front page of http://team-angela.org/ . You will be in and out of there before you can say guijaboard smile.

Call up your distributors and reps and lets get some technology in there. $100 gets you permanent advertising that everyone who stops by will see.

I must add to 39’s comments that there are a lot of worthy causes out there, including many that benefit our CE Pro brethren (and sistern?). Some of them are building theaters in Kuwait for our troops. Others are building them for children’s hospitals. Others for needy families, etc.

Pick a cause. It’s fun!
