Key Takeaways

  • Origin Acoustics has introduced the new A850 and A1650 residential distributed audio amplifiers.
  • According to the company, the additions complete its residential audio ecosystem by allowing dealers to source speakers, subwoofers and amplification from a single brand.
  • The new Class D amplifiers are available in 4-zone and 8-zone configurations with 50 watts per channel and installer-focused features.

Origin Acoustics has announced the A850 and A1650 Residential Amplifiers, expanding its distributed audio portfolio with two new models designed specifically for whole-home audio applications.

According to the company, the additions round out its residential audio ecosystem, allowing dealers to specify Origin speakers, subwoofers and amplification from a single manufacturer for distributed audio installations. Origin says the launch also expands its amplifier portfolio to more than 30 models serving residential, commercial, home theater, outdoor and DSP-based applications.

“Our job is to provide the right solution for each one,” said Jeff Brewer, executive vice president of sales at Origin Acoustics, in the announcement. “Every installation has different performance goals, design considerations, and customer expectations.”

According to Origin Acoustics, the A850 and A1650 were developed specifically for residential distributed audio systems rather than advanced DSP applications. The company says the amplifiers emphasize simplicity, scalability and reliable performance while maintaining installation flexibility.

The A850 is a four-zone, eight-channel amplifier, while the A1650 supports eight zones across 16 channels. Both models deliver 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms using a Class D amplifier design.

Other features, according to the company, include:

  • Flexible source routing
  • Always On, Audio Sense and 12-volt Trigger power management modes
  • Independent protection circuitry for each zone
  • Compact 1U rack-mount chassis
  • High-efficiency, cool-running Class D operation

Origin says the amplifiers are intended for applications including whole-home audio, multi-room music systems, custom homes, builder-grade residences and other distributed audio installations.

Origin Emphasizes Purpose-Built Amplifier Strategy

Origin Acoustics says its amplifier lineup is designed around specific applications rather than relying on a single platform for every installation. The company says different environments, such as dedicated home theaters, invisible speaker systems, outdoor entertainment spaces and distributed audio systems, have different amplification requirements.

“Craftsmanship is about choosing the right solution—not forcing one solution to fit every situation,” Brewer said in the announcement. “That’s how great spaces are designed, and it’s how we believe audio systems should be designed as well.”

According to the company, the A850 and A1650 Residential Amplifiers are available through authorized Origin Acoustics dealers.
