Sony Electronics has announced two new native 4K laser home cinema projectors, the BRAVIA Projector 8 (which CE Pro’s Bob Archer had an opportunity to check out ahead of today’s news) and BRAVIA Projector 9 while at CEDIA Expo 2024 this week. Both are the first projectors to include Sony’s XR Processing technology.
The new products are the first projectors to join Sony’s comprehensive BRAVIA home cinema line-up, made available alongside the BRAVIA TVs and BRAVIA Theatre home audio products.
According to Sony, BRAVIA is designed to enhance the authenticity of cinematic content, delivering impressive picture and sound at home as the filmmakers intended. These new projectors are meant to offer exceptional image clarity, color, and contrast as well as professional-grade visual experiences when used in home theater systems.
“We are thrilled to bring these two new BRAVIA Projectors to the market, as these new offerings showcase the depth of Sony’s experience of more than 50 years of bringing cinema home to our customers,” said Christopher Mullins, Home Cinema Product Manager for Professional Displays and Solutions, Sony Electronics
Additionally, Sony states the BRAVIA Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES) will be replacing Sony’s existing VPL-XW7000ES projector.

BRAVIA Projectors 8 and 9 Features
The BRAVIA Projectors 8 and 9 are equipped with Sony’s proprietary Laser light source, offering enhanced brightness in compact lightweight designs with the Projector 9 delivering up to 3,400 lumens and the Projector 8 delivering up to 2,700 lumens.
Both projectors also offer 4K images as 120fps while boasting 12ms input lag. Auto Low Latency Mode via 2x HDMI 2.1 compatible inputs provides the necessary smooth and clear movement as well, which Sony cites as being optimal for gameplay with the projector as the main video source.
The BRAVIA Projector 9 is also equipped with Live Color Enhancer to provide more vivid and vibrant images even in brighter environments.
Both laser projectors are also the first to utilize the XR Processor in Sony’s home cinema projector line-up allowing the projectors leverage XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, XR Deep Black, XR TRILUMINOS PRO and XR Clear Image.
XR Dynamic Tone Mapping analyzes peak brightness frame by frame, and delivers optimal tone mapping, showcasing images with rich gradation, high brightness, and authentic colors. In addition, XR Deep Black controls powerful laser dimming in dark scenes, bringing deeper blacks while maintaining tone and color expression.
The XR TRILUMINOS PRO feature brings over a billion colors to life and is redefined by XR Clear Image technology, upscaling all imagery to 4K quality by using a vast database to recreate lost texture and detail, all while minimizing noise.
Sony’s commitments to the custom install channel also come through in the design, as the projectors are compatible with many popular home automation platforms like Control4 and Savant, as well as with remote maintenance services like OvrC and Domotz.
Both projectors also feature Corner Keystone correction and lens-shift functions to ensure the projectors can be installed in rooms with challenging conditions such as higher ceilings and limited depth.
