Sharp Eyes Wireless Audio with WiSA
Julie Jacobson | 05/15 10:27 AM,

You’d think Sharp would be promoting its Moth Eye 4K Ultra HD TVs when visiting elite dealers in the Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA) group. But at the recent HTSA conference in San Antonio, the TV maker instead promoted wireless audio based on the newish standard Wireless Speaker and Audio (WiSA). To prove just how serious Sharp is about WiSA, the company brought in a large team of execs from Japan—something usually unheard of for an HTSA conference. Sharp was the first name brand to embrace WiSA, with prototype…

CE buying group Azione Unlimited marked its second year of existence when it held its third biannual conference earlier this month in St. Louis. The three-day event, titled “Confluence,” was held April 10-12, and brought together member dealers and manufacturers from across the country to share their hopes concerns and best practices for the industry. Richard Glikes, formerly the director of Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA), formed Azione Unlimited last year after parting ways with HTSA. In addition to its 32 vendor members, Glikes’ new group has 67 dealer…

LG Electronics sold its first Ultra HD (4K) TV set today, the 84-inch 84LM9600. MSRP had been set at $19,999 but the street price turns out to be $16,999. LG launched the new product at a huge event at Video & Audio Center in Lawndale, Calif., near Los Angeles. (“We’re not in Torrance, we’re not in Beverly Hills,” said Lawndale mayor Harold Hofmann, who declared today the official Video & Audio Center Ultra HD TV day in Lawndale). Today was the first day the sets went on sale, and at…

HTSA: Ignore Disruptive Technologies, Cloud at Own Risk
Jason Knott | 10/11 10:03 AM,
6 Comments
There’s been a lot of discussion about disruptive technologies, disruptive business models and the cloud lately, but according to industry watchers, it’s only the beginning. Instead of fearing these technology shifts, integrators should embrace them as huge opportunities. “The more confusion there is amongst consumers, the bigger the opportunity for integrators to become the go-to specialists,” said Bob Hana, executive director of the Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA), during the buying group's Fall Conference in Chicago. Disruptive technologies and the cloud were the topics of discussion for two panels…

Identity Crisis: Are You an ESC, Cloud Integrator, Weatherman?
Jason Knott | 10/10 10:26 AM,

“It’s déjà vu all over again,” as New York Yankee legend Yogi Berra would say. Integrators are once again facing an identity crisis caused by technology change. What should integrators call themselves to become established as the go-to resource for consumers seeking cloud-based or IT-based services? Integrators already go by way too many names: CE pro, dealer, home theater installer, low-voltage contractor, home technology specialist, connected home contractor, ESC (CEDIA's Electronic Systems Contractors designation), A/V integrator, high-end audio specialist, custom retailer, residential integrator, specialty retailer, security dealer, energy contractor. The…

HTSA Focuses on Lead Gen, Marketing for Members
Jason Knott | 10/09 10:33 AM,

The Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA) is aggressively addressing “the new normal” for its members with marketing programs aimed at generating and capturing consumer leads. The buying group has long past the role of simply being a group for “buying stuff,” according to Bob Hana, executive director. “HTSA must now be a marketing engine to fill the funnel," noting that it must “walk the talk” in terms of supporting vendors and assisting members. Hana’s “State of the Union” presentation to members gathered in Chicago for HTSA’s Fall 2012 Conference…

Why Dealers Are Joining New Azione Buying Group
Julie Jacobson | 07/27 08:03 AM,

The new CE buying group Azione Unlimited kicked off its first member conference this week in St. Louis, just one year after founder Richard Glikes left his longtime position as executive director of the competitive group Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA). During his opening remarks, Glikes took great pains to distinguish his new organization from HTSA, a group comprising about 60 of the industry’s top home systems integrators. Azione will have more dealers than that (250 is the goal) and fewer vendors. Glikes has signed up 24 vendors so…

Awesome Marketing Advice from HTSA Dealers
Julie Jacobson | 05/31 10:57 AM,

The spring meeting of the Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA) had a cool vibe to it, with the new managing director Bob Hana running the show for the first time. “Get off your ass and go make some relationships,” he urged the membership of 63 integration companies and 60 vendors. “They are everywhere – charity events, yacht clubs …. Where are your relationships? Get out and reach your customers where they are. You have to go find these guys.” To that end, several accomplished integrators in a panel discussion…
