Crestron Debuts 8-Channel Switch, 4-Channel Dimmer DIN Rail Lighting Modules

Crestron’s new 8-channel switch and 4-channel dimmer are meant to replace several older modules and make lighting panels smaller.

Crestron has introduced two DIN rail lighting modules for centralized residential lighting systems: the 8-Channel Universal Switch (DIN-8SWU8) and the 4-Channel Universal Dimmer (DIN-4DIMU4). Both are available to order now. Crestron has not published pricing, which is available through authorized channels.

The Rockleigh, N.J.-based maker of control and automation products positions the pair as companion modules built on a shared platform and form factor, intended to replace multiple legacy devices in its centralized lighting lineup. Crestron says the new modules can cut DIN enclosure requirements in half, though the announcement does not specify which legacy configurations that comparison is based on.

Hardware and installation changes

Each module occupies 6M of DIN rail. Crestron describes them as the most compact switching and dimming modules it has offered in the category.

The modules adopt Crestron’s Module-to-Module (M2M) connectivity, which the company says is now standard across its DIN devices. M2M removes the need for Cresnet communications and override cabling between devices in a panel.

Other installation-related features include:

  • Front-panel configuration using RGB LEDs, allowing integrators to commission the modules on site without a laptop
  • Spring terminals that accept passthrough connections up to 12 AWG on all live and switched live connections

The two modules

8-Channel Universal Switch (DIN-8SWU8): A relay-based module that handles both standard switching and bi-directional motor control.

4-Channel Universal Dimmer (DIN-4DIMU4): Supports LED, MLV, ELV, incandescent, fluorescent and motor loads, with a 0-watt minimum load and independent multi-phase inputs on each channel.

Both modules can run locally without a control system, be integrated into a Crestron Home system, or be programmed for custom Crestron systems using SIMPL.

Crestron’s stated intent is to consolidate inventory: one SKU for switching applications and one for dimming applications, reducing the number of parts dealers need to stock.

Market context

Crestron tied the launch to dealer interest in lighting, citing CEDIA’s 2026 Professional Smart Home Market Analysis, in which respondents in both the U.S. and U.K. most frequently named lighting as a business opportunity for the coming year.

“Almost every project we see is now LED, and we are building the control hardware to lead what comes next,” said Michael Short, VP of residential at Crestron. “We set out to give our dealers two solutions that shape how lighting projects are designed and installed. That meant introducing smaller panels, faster wiring, and the flexibility to handle many load types on any job.”
