The global home and commercial audio company Sonos has announced that through its latest software update its platform now enables the playback of lossless audio for Apple Music subscribers.
Sonos explains lossless audio uses a form of compression that preserves all of the original data in the original source file for the highest-quality sound. Apple has developed its own lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) to deliver audio that is indistinguishable from the original studio recording.
The company goes onto state all Apple Music subscribers need to do to steam lossless content is to use compatible Sonos audio products. Compatible Sonos products include:
- All generations of the Move
- All generations of the Roam, including SL editions
- Five
- Play:5 gen 2
- Era 300
- Era 100
- One all generations, including SL editions
- Arc all generations, including SL editions
- Ray
- Amp
- Port
- Connect
- SYMFONISK Table Lamp (all generations)
- SYMFONISK Bookshelf (all generations)
- SYMFONISK Floor Lamp
Sonos also explains that homeowners listening to spatial audio on a product such as the Arc or Era 300 will need to adjust their system settings. The company adds that dealers can assist their clients by opening the Sonos app, then turning off the spatial music option, and then they dealers or homeowners can navigate to settings and select the room or product. Once either a dealer or homeowner arrives at this step the next move will be to go to sound and toggle spatial music to the off position to enable the playback of lossless Apple Music.
