Since the advent of home automation, integrators have been able to integrate more and more aspects of their client’s lifestyles into streamlined controls. Most recently, this has come to include a home’s lighting, giving homeowners the opportunity to control the mood and energy of a space through a combination of lighting, audio visual, and environmental controls.
While it has never been easier to incorporate these aspects of the home into a comprehensive control structure, lighting still comes with a specific set of challenges that set it apart from its contemporaries, especially for a beginner.
One of the biggest issues comes from the sheer profusion of LEDs on the market currently thanks largely in part to the popularity of color-tunable lighting. This has led to a glut of lower quality LEDs being introduced into the supply in an attempt to ride the wave of success these other products are seeing.
Additionally, the sheer number of LED products makes it difficult to source out high-quality products, with a beginner in the lighting field having an ocean of fixtures to sift through. This leads to even greater frustrations among integrators hoping to be able to lean on manufacturers and distributors within the field.
Given the “newness” of the CI channel for the lighting industry, there are still plenty of distributors out there that simply don’t understand the needs of an integrator when they’re a beginner in lighting, and while they may be knowledgeable in being able to assist designers and architects, they come up short when dealing with CE pros.
