Dealers comment:

“It feels like selling Kaleidescape is like riding a dinosaur: no streaming, legal issues, extreme pricing, new unfriendly dealer policies, expensive warranties.  I’m on the hunt for new ways to deliver the value and quality my clients want.”

“Whether we continue with Kaleidescape or another server,  we think it becomes a tough sell unless the client has an existing library of content. Cloud-based/streaming is the future anyway.”

“I feel this is a minor setback, but the future is in Blu-ray and streaming. Movie servers are very nice for their ease of use and categorization of movies, but I think we are in a new age of movie distribution.”

“We believe that in an environment that includes video streaming, having a localized copy of one’s media is an advantage, especially when Internet uptime is not yet 100%, and bandwidth issues are still relevant. The Kaleidescape ruling is stifling innovation as long as it stands.”

“The reality is that the only clients we have that want this kind of device are generally already enabled with the knowledge they need to replicate it with a simple PC and generic hard drive storage. ... Throw in these month-to-month on-again/off-again legal concerns, impending obsolescence at the hands of simple, affordable, user friendly streaming devices and we are very happy to have avoided this category almost entirely as it now runs its course. We will continue to recommend that our clients focus on high end/high performance playback systems and make prudent purchases of source equipment considering the rapid evolution and obsolescence of this category.”

“I really hope this works out.  Kaleidescape is a wonderful product that people are excited to get.  I cannot think of another product that gets such a positive reception from clients.”

“The pricing structure and arrogance of the Kaleidescape team has paid for their legal effort from the 1200% price difference from other well established servers.  My last proposal with Kaleidescape products was $80k.  A ridiculous sum considering the alternatives.”

“I never understood the server thing to begin with. The Internet and streaming make this obsolete.”
