Global Cache's GC-100 Network Adapter

The Global Cache pieces come handy because they sit on your local area network and let IR and RS-232 signals convert back and forth onto an IP network,” says Curt Hayes, Audio Design Inc., Deerfield Beach, Fla. “You can put a Global Cache piece out there, put it on a Crestron IP system and you can do RS-232 through it via Cat 5.”

This solution looks very interesting, but you have to understand one (major) thing about wireless networking. If you add an early-generation connection speed (in this case, .11b), you slow down the entire wireless network to that speed. The market has been selling .11n networks for two years now, which boast 54MB data transfer rates. If you add this network adapter onto a .11n network, you’re dropping ALL rates to a maximum of 11MB. If someone did that to my network, I would raise holy hell. Image an angry client learning his wireless network timewarped back to 2000. Go into this eyes wide open and practice full disclosure. They may not care…..but some might.
