10 Ways to Use iPhone as Remote Control
10 Ways to Use iPhone as Remote Control

AirRemote

The AirRemote app for the iPhone, which uses a low-cost communications box from Global Cache, takes IP commands from the iPhone and converts them to infrared, serial or contact-closure for controlling everything from a home theater system to lighting controls to motorized blinds.

In addition to the basic AirRemote control solution, the app also enables control of AMX or Crestron automation systems, allowing users to operate lights, security, audio/video, thermostats and virtually any other electronic system connected to an AMX or Crestron system. AirRemote also supports the Kaleidescape media server.

What a great list!

But you missed iLinX which controls NaimNet as well as DigiLinX - or both together for a high performance multiroom audio solution across all price bands plus seamless integration with Heating, Lighting security etc.

http://www.naimnet.com

Also adds timed events to these high-perfamance IP based systems.

Shortly to be joined by an even more advanced derivative for the iPad!

BitWise Controls also has an app out that when tied to their Project Editor software, offers a completely cusomizeable user interface. You have to love the price… free. http://www.bitwisecontrols.com

To top it off, they also make the BC4X1 Pro automation controller which connects IR, IP and RS232 controllable devices (read AV equipment) the network the app will run on.

The controller also offers 2 GPIO (general purpose input/output) ports for sensing equipment states, 2 relays for powering amps and projection screens, and a built in IR learner/blaster.

This powerful and all inclusive solution is priced at $449 and offers an easy price effective way to add iPhone/iPad control to any AV project.

Good list, but you didn’t mention the Re from NewKinetix as a universal remote for direct IR control from the iPhone. http://www.newkinetix.com

The Re adds an IR accessory for direct control of your home theater AV equipment. It’s easy to setup with a built-in database and portable since no WiFi boxes are required. The Re has the features of high end traditional remotes. It has macro driven activities and favorites lists to make your viewing or listening experience easy to control and customize. You can fully customize any remote layout. It is the 1st and best of class of the IR based iPhone, iPod touch and iPad compatible remotes.

There is a really good IPhone “remote control” application that works with Bang & Olufsen system as backend[1].

With this application you can control all the B&O system and also you HomeAutomation system if it is compatible with B&O MLGW[2].

I also recommend the Re by NewKinetix - just got mine recently and needed the high degree of functionality it offered over the others listed.  I was considering the L5 but that didn’t have built-in remote codes nor could it be setup for different viewing areas with different sets of remotes for any location. The Re could also replace my several old lost remotes.Hope this helps…

I recommend EPR - easy presentation remote app.
It turns your iPhone/iPod touch into a stylish and reliable remote control for your PowerPoint presentation.

I tried many presentation remote apps but this EPR is the best.
