Ways to Mount a Flat-Panel TV

Replacing a CRT

The challenge was to mount this Toshiba 57” flat panel in such a manner to accommodate viewing from anywhere in the room. It was a wide room and the mounting location was a recessed area inside built-in cabinet, in the corner, where a CRT RPTV had been before.

Of course as light as an LCD is, you still need to figure for the max amount of stress it could endure, which is why we chose the Chief mount. The frame used to hold the mount consisted of 4 x 4 treated lumber, 2 x 4 treated lumber, cheap black spray paint (but lots of it), and u-braces for the 4x’s and such.

Attached the 4xs and then the 2xs across the span, all with the proper measurement to insure the tv sits just barely inside the rest of the cabinet when pushed all the way back.  This allowed enough throw distance for a completely perpendicular presentation if so desired. Planning the bracing so far forward also allowed enough room for the powered subwoofer behind the framing, and we made sure the cross-members were high enough to get the sub in and out.

The center channel posed it’s own unique problem, and yet we just referred right back to the awesome strength of the PDR series mount to hold the center speaker from the tv! It’s a Polk Audio center channel and it’s mounted with it’s two keyhole slot mounts onto bolts and a series of nuts/locknuts on heavy duty strapping material.

Why didn’t you cover the ugly 2x4s with a flat piece of mdf or malanine behind the TV?  Otherwise, it looks retarded.
