Sharp's Energy Efficiency: LCD vs. LED

Sharp’s new line of Aquos LED LCD TVs is a lot more efficient than its regular old LCD TVs, according to a demo in its CEDIA Expo 2009 booth. Sharp claims the line offers the lowest power consumption of any available LCD TV with an “unprecedented energy-efficient, eco-friendly performance.”

“UltraBrilliant Full Array LED backlight,” according to Sharp, provides uniform brightness and color purity with higher luminance per watt so less power is needed. Sharp says the series is mercury-free and exceeds the EPA’s Energy Star criteria for power consumption by up to 67 percent and has a long lifespan of 100,000 hours.
