Stealth Acoustics is extending its “hidden technology” philosophy outdoors with its Stingray speaker, a fully sealed, IP68-rated solution designed specifically for harsh environmental conditions.
In a conversation with CE Pro, Brian Azzano, vice president of Stealth Acoustics, explains that the Stingray was developed from the company’s invisible speaker platform, which already utilized durable materials such as fiberglass and plastics. By sealing the enclosure completely, Stealth eliminated traditional failure points such as exposed drivers and grilles, which are often vulnerable to moisture, UV exposure and debris.
The result is a speaker designed to withstand extreme environments, from coastal salt air to wide temperature swings. According to Azzano, the engineering process included pressure equalization mechanisms to account for expansion and contraction in varying climates, ensuring long-term reliability.
Beyond durability, the Stingray takes a different approach to audio performance. Rather than projecting sound over long distances, the speaker is designed for wide, hemispherical dispersion. This creates a more even sound field within a defined outdoor space, which can help avoid overspill into neighboring properties.

Aesthetics also play a central role. The product features a low-profile design and supports custom finishes, including printed graphics that allow the speaker to blend into surrounding materials such as stone, walls or landscaping elements.
The conversation also highlights a broader industry trend: the push to bring indoor design sensibilities outdoors. Azzano notes that homeowners increasingly expect outdoor spaces to match the same level of visual refinement as interiors, driving demand for concealed technology.
In addition to audio, Stealth is expanding into outdoor video with its patio theater systems, including retractable LED video walls that can be hidden when not in use.
