McIntosh has announced the MX124 A/V Processor, a new reference-grade home theater processor designed for luxury residential installations.
According to the company, the MX124 serves as the centerpiece of high-performance home theater systems, combining support for immersive audio formats, 8K video, advanced room correction and integrated music streaming with a range of features aimed at professional custom integrators.
The processor supports speaker configurations up to 7.4.6 or 9.4.4 through 13 audio channels and four independent subwoofer outputs. McIntosh says the new model doubles the number of subwoofer outputs compared to its predecessor, providing installers with greater flexibility for bass management and more complex system designs.
MX124 Supports Multiple Immersive Audio Formats
According to McIntosh, the MX124 is compatible with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, Sony 360 Reality Audio and MPEG-H Audio. The processor incorporates nine 32-bit digital-to-analog converters and includes bass and treble controls for additional system tuning.
For room optimization, the company says the processor includes licenses for Dirac Live Room Correction, Dirac Live Bass Control and Audyssey MultEQ XT32. These calibration platforms are intended to help optimize speaker integration, bass performance and overall system accuracy.
8K Video, Multi-Zone Support and Streaming Built In
On the video side, the MX124 features seven HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs, including one with eARC. According to McIntosh, the primary outputs support 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz video, along with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and IMAX Enhanced compatibility.
Additional HDMI features include HDCP 2.3, Rec. 2020, 4:4:4 color spacing, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
Beyond home theater applications, the processor also supports whole-home audio through integrated streaming services, including Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Roon Ready. McIntosh says the platform supports high-resolution streaming up to 32-bit/192kHz.
Installer-Focused Integration Features
McIntosh says the MX124 was designed with custom integration in mind and includes web-based configuration, pre-configuration and file upload capabilities, backup and restore support, RS-232 and IP control, and certification for Control4 Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP).
Additional connectivity includes four digital audio inputs, one balanced and eight unbalanced analog stereo inputs, component and composite video inputs, dual analog stereo outputs for two additional listening zones and Bluetooth headphone support.
The MX124 A/V Processor will be available through authorized McIntosh dealers, according to the company.
