Helping dealers to meet the performance aspirations of demanding clients, KEF has introduced a pair of THX Certified architectural loudspeakers: the Ci5160REFM-THX and the Ci3160REFM-THX.
KEF boasts the Ci5160REFM-THX is its first Dominus level certified product and the Ci3160REFM-THX is a THX Ultra certified product. KEF states that both THX Certified in-wall loudspeakers are engineered to deliver high levels of realism when watching movies, playing games, listening to music or simply watching TV, and the speakers push the company’s technology levels to augment its Extreme Home Theatre architectural line of products.
The new loudspeakers feature the company’s 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, as well as KEF’s Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT). KEF points out that its new THX Certified speakers also employ newly optimized bass drivers that are specifically designed for in-wall environments, and aluminum baffles that are designed to minimize vibrations.
KEF Ci5160REFM-THX THX Certified Dominus Loudspeaker
KEF notes the Ci5160REFM-THX in-wall speaker is its first Dominus level speaker. The company says Dominus level is a designation for the highest performance standards set for large home spaces such as private cinemas. KEF emphasizes that Dominus certification means the Ci5160REFM-THX architectural loudspeaker is capable of delivering high-performance audio in rooms up to 6,500-cubic feet with screen viewing distances as great as 20 feet.
The Ci3160REFM-THX architectural loudspeaker offers similar performance to the bigger Ci5160REFM-THX and to signify its performance capabilities the speaker carries the Ultra certification. To meet the standard the company continues, the speaker had to meet hundreds of tests, including listening window, output levels, frequency response, distortion and bass management. Through its Ultra certification the speaker is designed for installation in rooms up to 3,000-cubic feet and screen viewing distances up to 12 feet.

KEF offers the speakers in aluminum black/gray finishes, along with paintable magnetic grilles to help integrators blend the speakers into a range of home spaces.
The Ci5160REFM-THX carries an MSRP of $10,999.99 each and the Ci3160REFM-THX carries an MSRP of $7,999.99.
