As part of its ongoing collaboration with residential audio manufacturer, Sonos, Ikea has announced the latest in its Symfonisk line of audio furniture. Releasing the first Symfonisk lamp back in 2019, this latest iteration comes as a floor lamp speaker combining high-quality Sonos sound with thoughtful design, and all at a $260 price tag.
“We have learnt a great deal about how people want to furnish with light and sound. We also know that many people want to have several light sources on different levels and parts of the room to create the right mood. The challenge of not having enough room for a table to put the lamp on led us to create the floor lamp”, says Stjepan Begic, Range Design Leader at IKEA of Sweden.
For integrators, this also means consumers are becoming more aware of music’s presence in the home, and that means dealers can use the recognition to potentially parlay clients into larger audio solutions.
Symfonisk Puts Two Measures of Mood into One Scintillating Product
Adhering to Nordic design philosophies, simplicity sits at the core of the Symfonisk floor lamp speaker, offering elevated sound alongside gentle light. The lamp also comes standard with a single bamboo shade, but that other shades are available for separate purchase to better match the style of a space. The furniture piece can also be combined with other products in the Symfonisk line or from Sonos directly, acting as a rear speaker to create a home theater with light and sound tied together.
The entire piece acts as an acknowledgement from both Sonos and Ikea towards the beneficial effects of music and light in home life. As such, it should be as easy to find a space for in the home, as it is to use. The integration of light and sound, then, not only creates a unique union for mood-setting, but also helps to remove one of the largest challenges of adding speakers: that being finding a place for them.

“The SYMFONISK floor lamp speaker is a great example of how our collaboration continues to challenge the traditional idea of sound in the home”, says Sara Lincoln, Principal Product Manager at Sonos. “We created the floor lamp speaker to sound great on its own but also to be versatile. It works seamlessly with all our Sonos speakers and is a great option for those who are looking to add rear speakers to their home theatre set-up, when paired with our soundbars such as Ray and Beam”, Says Sara Lincoln.
All Symfonisk products are part of the Sonos system, making connecting to music and audio content easy. The products are also smart home-enabled by Dirigera, the IKEA hub for smart products, allowing the floor lamp speaker to be added to the IKEA Home smart app and be steered together with other smart devices to create scenes that positively affect moments in the home.
“With a curious mindset and shared values, IKEA and Sonos will continue to challenge each other to find new solutions to enhance life at home through good sound integrated into home furnishing products,” the companies state in a press release on Ikea’s website.
In the meantime, the new SYMFONISK floor lamp speaker will be available in all IKEA markets starting January 2023.
