We don’t usually report on big-company CIOs but ADT (NYSE: ADT) is making a big deal out of the fact that its new exec Kathleen McLean can have a major impact on the company’s Pulse home automation and security platform. “We’re very much involved in the conversation with the product development team about the next set of capabilities that we’re going to enable there,” she told the Wall Street Journal. Prior to joining ADT, McLean spent 14 years in executive positions at telecom firms FairPoint Communications and Verizon Communications. That… View this story

ADT, the No. 2 integrator in the CE Pro 100, is enhancing its entry-level home automation solution ADT Pulse by adding control of remote door locks from Kwikset. ADT Pulse users will now be able to lock or unlock any door in their home using their tablet, smartphone, or the computer on their desk. ADT says it spent more than a year testing the quality and speed of its remote door locks. Remote locking is the latest feature to be added to ADT Pulse, which allows users to remotely arm… View this story

ADT Pulse has been gaining steam as a mass-market home automation solution, but it has been missing (at least) two important features available on more custom-oriented systems: a TV interface for security, lighting control, energy management and other controls; and integration with audio. At CES 2013, ADT showed both. On the TV side, ADT demonstrated a Samsung Smart TV App that puts the entire Pulse feature set on the big screen. Consumers can navigate the ADT interface via the handheld remote that comes with a Samsung Smart TV … just… View this story

ADT (NYSE: ADT) has a big booth in the south hall of the LVCC at CES 2013. Why? Are they trying to sell security systems to CES attendees? Sure, they’ll take your business but ADT is in Vegas to get exposure for itself as a company (following the spinoff from Tyco last October) and a partner to product manufacturers and service providers. “Since we’re newly public, it’s a good time to showcase our technology,” says Amy Kabcenell, director of residential marketing. The company is demonstrating its traditional security systems but… View this story

ADT Pulse Home View
Jason Knott | 06/01 08:26 AM, 0 Comments
ADT, the No. 2 integrator on the CE Pro 100, is now offering the Home View app for ADT Pulse. ADT says the additional software feature allows ADT Pulse, launched in October 2010, customers to easily and quickly map a virtual floor plan of their home and remotely monitor and interact with their ADT Pulse devices via any web enabled PC, iPhone or iPad. “Home View allows you to monitor your home, at a glance no matter where you are,” says Steve Shapiro, ADT group director of product management. “Releasing… View this story

Both iPhone and iPad users have been able to tap into ADT Pulse for quite some time. Now, the security company is extending the same courtesy and convenience to Android users. The new offering is called Pulse Beta. It’s specifically for Android users with an ADT Pulse system. If you have that security setup, this should offer some peace of mind. In addition to being able to arm and disarm the system remotely, it also has controls for lighting, cameras and thermostats. Also, if you’re the type that can’t keep… View this story

The iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and Android phones have changed the way that homeowners view security. Clients can call up the home or office and get a quick peek, flip on lights and make sure the doors are locked. Some apps even create a two-way experience, letting homeowners know when someone has entered the house or touched that most prized possession. “Most home security companies are offering real-time email and text message alerts whenever security systems detect an abnormality. You can also use the app to check in at… View this story

iControl Networks, based in Palo Alto, Calif., provides the home automation engine behind ADT Pulse and Xfinity Home Security. But is the platform also being rolled out by Time Warner Cable? Multichannel News thinks so. The excellent news resource for the cable industry reports today that a new home control offering from Motorola Mobility (4Home) and Honeywell will compete with iControl, “whose customers include Comcast, Time Warner Cable and ADT Security Services.” Do they know something I don’t know? I know that TWC is offering Honeywell home security systems in… View this story

Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI) is building a turnkey security/home automation system with the help of Honeywell Security Group, putting the duo in direct competition with iControl and Alarm.com (and possibly Honeywell's own Total Connect 2.0) -- all providers of SaaS (software as a service) for remote home monitoring and control. Motorola began its latest foray into the connected home last year when it acquired 4Home, a developer of home-control software. But 4Home never really had a product to sell with its home automation platform. That’s where Honeywell comes in. The… View this story

Integrators should not be surprised to see ADT Security Services sitting atop the CE Pro 100 list for 2010, with an estimated $50 million in custom revenues. Over the past few years ADT has migrated from being strictly a low-cost provider of alarm systems to a company that offers fully integrated commercial and residential security. But guess what: that number could be much higher - an estimated $121 million higher - when income from their Pulse installations is included. However, those estimated revenues are not factored in for various reasons.… View this story
