Projection screen manufacturer Severtson Screens has launched its new Proteus Series sreens featuring a built-in masking system and adjustable aspect ratios at InfoComm 2024.
According to the Sun Tan Valley, Ariz.-based company, the Proteus Screens allow users to quickly switch between 16:9 and 2.39:1 aspect ratios with the push of a button. Although designed for home theater projects, the company launched the screens during the largest U.S. commercial AV trade show and also markets them as a permanent installation screen.
“As one of Severtson’s most innovative technologies, Proteus’ masking material is designed to absorb all spill-over that results from the projected media and the viewing surface being in different native formats. This gives the viewer a razor-sharp viewing edge,” says Aaron White, home theater and Pro AV sales lead at Severtson Corp.
The company says the Proteus Series screens are the culmination of years of research and development of providing the adjustable aspect ratio screen. The screens are designed to allow users to easily adjust aspect ratio without visible gray bars, providing a perfect clean edge for the most common content formats.
For example, users can watch TV programming and sports in a 16:9 format without any projection bleed over or visible gray bars, and then switch to 2.39:1 for movies at the push of a button.
The screens come in Severtson’s signature U.S.-made projection surfaces of optical coatings, including Cinema White (1.3 gain); Cinema Grey (1.0 gain); Stellar White (1.3 – 2.6 gain); High Contrast Grey [HCNC] (0.7 gain); Grey Vision (1.3 – 2.2 gain); SAT-4K (1.18 gain); TAT-4K (0.93 gain); Bright White Acoustically Transparent [BWAT] (1.0 – 1.1 gain); SēVision 3D GX (1.4 – 3.0 gain; Severtson’s advanced, water-based optical coating recommended for passive 3D projection).
