Outdoor lighting is becoming a larger focus for homeowners investing in outdoor entertainment, wellness and hospitality-style living spaces.
In this conversation with CE Pro, Patrick Laidlaw, Director of Business Development for Integration at WAC Group, discusses how technologies like tunable white lighting, color-changing fixtures and outdoor track lighting systems are expanding what integrators can offer clients.
According to Laidlaw, tunable outdoor lighting gives integrators greater flexibility to complement landscaping, architecture and seasonal environments through adjustable color temperatures. Cooler whites can accent flowering trees and contemporary exteriors, while warmer tones can create more inviting scenes around wood, brick and outdoor gathering spaces.
The discussion also explores how outdoor lighting can visually extend indoor living spaces by reducing the “black mirror effect” created by dark windows at night. Properly illuminated outdoor environments help create a more connected and expansive feel between interior and exterior spaces while improving nighttime usability.
Laidlaw also discusses WAC Group’s outdoor track lighting solutions designed for pergolas, gazebos, outdoor kitchens and restaurant seating areas. Operating on low-voltage landscape lighting transformers, the systems are intended to simplify installation while giving integrators scalable and flexible deployment options.
Additional topics covered during the interview include wellness-focused lighting design, permanent holiday lighting applications and the importance of integrator training as outdoor lighting continues to grow within the custom integration market.
