LG is unveiling its new ThinQ ON AI smart home hub featuring its Affectionate Intelligence technology that connects with a wide range of appliances and IoT devices.
According to LG, its new AI home hub seamlessly connects with a vast array of devices, and is marketed as a personalized AI-powered smart home hub. It is powered by LG’s unique Affectionate Intelligence, making the ThinQ ON continuously learn from individual usage patterns and broader usage trends to tailor customers’ daily experiences. The company says this accelerates the vision of LG’s “Zero Labor Home” model.
ThinQ ON Uses AI to Facilitate Natural Language Commands
The compact and lightweight ThinQ ON, wich will be showcased at IFA 2024, comes in a cylindrical form factor and a muted color palette designed to blend into any environment. The device comes with an AI speaker that facilitates conversations with LG’s AI voice assistant. These AI features are driven by the company’s AI chipset, LG says.
This allows homeowners to use their voice to control appliances and living spaces with spoken commands in a natural, conversational manner. LG says this experience is like speaking with friends or family for a more human interaction with their smart home.
The company says the AI home hub can also understand the context of conversations and determine user preferences for each connected appliance, IoT device and service. The ThinQ ON autonomously monitors all elements within the smart home ecosystem, informing users when a task like a washing machine cycle is completed.

The ThinQ ON hub also allows users to check or change “nearly all” appliance settings using voice commands, and they can configure routines and automations.
LG says ThinQ ON is Matter-certified and supports Wi-Fi and Thread, making it compatible with a wide range of LG devices and third-party devices from other manufacturers.
LG Continues to Grow its Smart Home Ecosystem
The ThinQ ON news comes shortly after LG acquired smart home platform company Athom and the Homey Pro smart home hub that allows for control of over 50,00 devices and includes an app store with around 1,000 applications for smart home control. LG plans to maximize the advantages of the ThinQ ON’s open platform by continuously expanding the range of supported brands and devices.
The ThinQ ON utilizes LG Shield, the company’s proprietary security system, to protect customer data at all times. LG Shield encrypts user data and securely stores it in a separate server. Additionally, data modifications required are made within a secure environment, preventing external parties from tampering with the operational code, the company says.
“An AI voice assistant and hub that serves as the center of the smart home, ThinQ ON brings us significantly closer to realizing our vision of the Zero Labor Home,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “LG aims to make the ‘AI Home Lifestyle’ accessible to everyone, and will continue to deliver customized comfort, care and convenience through its Affectionate Intelligence solutions.”
